Great give-away: French-inspired gourmet meals for baby!

I like this little book by Jenny Carenco, a Swedish mom now living in France. Fun recipes with gourmet ingredients (‘celery and apple puree’, for example). The photos are adorable too!

The recipes are likely to seem slightly exotic for many North American palates, but the philosophy is one I think more parents should adopt: introduce your child to as many tastes and textures when they’re still young, to ‘train’ their tastebuds. They’ll thank you for it later on! That’s the key insight of the French (and Italian, and Korean, and Indian….) approach to food education. And it’s the focus of my new book, Getting to Yum (out early next year)!

  1. I have an almost 8 month old and am a firm believer in the French attitude towards food. However, my little girl hardly likes anything! I’d love to introduce lots of new flavours to her, but I can hardly get them in her mouth. Any advice?

  3. I just finished your book and LOVED it! I got the book from the library, but I think I will have to buy it because when I was finished, I had dog-eared about 50 pages! I have a six month old who just started on solids, I’m so excited to try your ideas and recipes and would love to have this other recipe book to try out as well!

  5. This is not an entry, because I already have the book. I made my entire family’s menu from it for last week. Love it! And so glad to be raising my youngest with these principles. At 10 months she devours: turnips, leeks, greens, fish, smoked salmon, spinach, asparagus, and any other vegetable we give her. 🙂

  8. I love your book, “French Kids Eat Everything.” Our little girl started eating solids at 6.5 months. And it has been great fun making a variety of food for her to try. She’s loving it!

  12. We are expecting our third any day, and I can’t wait to try adding veggie purées to breast milk, as opposed to rice cereal. I wonder what the advice will be from the pediatrician… 🙂

  19. Anything that helps get the little ones tasting more foods is a good thing. I have always made the baby food for our children but they all seem to hit an age where they refuse to eat things they have already tried. Maybe a little ‘peer pressure’ from the littlest one trying some new combinations might get the older ones to try them, too?

  20. I’m halfway through your book. You are truly an inspiration. My 8-month-old said his third word (after Mama and Dada) yesterday: FISH! He said it while eating homemade and pureed calamari, pastina, and ragu with spinach, and repeated it again this morning while telling Grandma what we ate for dinner last night. I’m so excited to find new recipes to share with him!

  21. I just finished re-reading your book and have started serving little purees before dinner – my sons love the spinach soup. Thank you so much for writing that book. It’s amazing. And as a matter of coincidence, I checked out Bebe Gourmet from our library a few weeks ago and have been making a few of those recipes, too. Such yummy food happening in our kitchen these days!

  22. I love that you are able to give away amazing books and this one looks like it is no exception! I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy to share with friends, family and the community I teach in. As far as I can tell from reading about this book online, many of the recipes seem quite similar to ones we were introduced to in my french primary school, but which seemed like they would be lost to time.
